Description of Our Services
Initial Meeting
Since each child’s program is individualized, the consultation process typically begins with a telephone conference or meeting involving the parent(s) of the child and the consultants. During this meeting, the consultants will provide information on how an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program is typically implemented in a home, strategies in hiring and interviewing therapists, and will address any parental concerns/questions. An overview of the child’s developmental, medical, and educational history will also be discussed at the time.
Initial Consultation
Once the therapy team has been hired, the consultants then provide an intensive two day training on the history, principles, and techniques of applied behavior analysis. All family members who come into daily contact with the child and all therapists who will be working with the child must attend the entire training. Any other individuals who are involved in your child's life, such as other relatives, therapists, educators or friends, are also invited to attend this training. An individualized program will then be developed for your child using data from an assessment done with your child during this time. On the second day of the consult, hands-on training will be provided in implementing each of your child’s protocols.
On-going Supervision
Once the initial consult is complete, one-on-one training with each of the therapists and parents will continue until each can effectively implement all of the protocols and procedures with your child. The consultants will also initially attend weekly meetings to ensure everyone has a thorough understanding of the ABA program. If your child is attending school and/or other therapies (Speech, OT, etc.) the consultants will meet with teachers/therapists, if possible, to encourage a transdisciplinary approach and maintain consistency both in and out of the home program. If necessary, the consultants will also conduct observations of your child in these environments and/or additional training with these professionals or any shadows that will be working with your child.
In order to ensure your child progresses at the most efficient rate possible, frequent communication with the consultants will continue once the intensive training is complete. Data collected by the team and family members will be submitted along with any questions or concerns to the consultants each week for review via fax or email. This data is used to ensure your child is making continuous progress in both his/her therapy program and in his/her natural environment. By analyzing the data weekly, we will be able to quickly determine if any changes need to be made to the program so your child's progress is not hindered. Videotapes of therapy sessions will be submitted periodically to the consultants for review. Follow-up consultations will also occur throughout your child’s program.
