Empowering Children with Autism
Taking the first step toward ABA therapy can feel overwhelming, but you're not alone. At BIG, we make getting started simple, supportive, and tailored to your family's unique needs.

Starting Your Journey
Every great journey begins with a single step. At BIG, we've designed our admissions process to be straightforward, supportive, and focused on your family's unique needs.
Initial Contact & Phone Consultation
It all starts with a simple phone call or website form. During our phone consultation, we'll learn about your child's unique strengths and challenges while sharing how BIG's ABA services can benefit your family. This conversation helps us determine if we're the right fit for your child's needs.
Insurance Verification
Once we receive official diagnosis and the insurance verification form, our dedicated team will work directly with your insurance company to verify coverage for ABA therapy services and clearly explain any out-of-pocket costs. We believe in transparency – you'll know exactly what to expect financially before moving forward.
Intake Application
Once you have submitted the intake application, you will be added to our waitlist (if applicable). We will reach out to your family once a spot becomes available.
Pre-authorization
Once a family is offered a spot, it typically takes up to 2 weeks to obtain pre-authorization to conduct the assessment.
Assessment and Facility Tour
Your child will participate in an assessment designed to feel like play while we gather important information about their current skills and interests. Meanwhile, you'll tour our specialized facility and meet our team. We'll then develop your child's Individualized Treatment Plan and submit it for insurance authorization.
Authorization for Services and Start Date
It typically takes 4-6 weeks for the insurance company to approve the treatment plan and authorize the BCBA to provide services to your child. We will contact you and confirm your child’s start date.
Coverage You Can Count On
We believe every child deserves access to quality ABA therapy services, regardless of insurance complexity. BIG works with most major insurance providers to make our programs accessible and affordable for your family. We’re proud to now accept Medicaid, expanding access for even more children and families.

Frequently Asked Questions
We understand choosing the right support for your child is one of the most important decisions you'll make. Here are some answers to help guide your journey.
If your child has social, communication, or behavior challenges, an ABA assessment will
show whether they benefit from a structured, data-driven teaching approach. We offer an initial interview and assessment to help you decide. ABA is considered the most research-proven treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Throughout a child’s progression at BIG, we shift treatment goals to include school routines—sitting in groups, raising hands, following schedules as well as pre-academics—and practice those skills daily alongside peer models. We track readiness milestones to guide transition planning.
The length of time it takes for a child to begin from the first contact differs, usually ranging from 4-8 weeks, depending on staff availability. Various elements, including the timeliness of submission of the necessary paperwork, the time it takes for the authorization by the insurance company, as well as the availability of staff.
ABA therapy is typically covered by insurance if it is deemed medically necessary. Many insurance plans in Louisiana offer coverage for ABA therapy including both private insurance and Medicaid. Coverage will depend on the specifics of your plan. We will assist you in learning the ABA coverage details for your plan.
A formal diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder from a licensed diagnostic professional is typically required for insurance to authorize ABA therapy. There may be other diagnoses that deem ABA medically necessary. We can work with families to determine if this is the case for their child.
